How are you as this new week starts? But seriously, how are you really?
Because honestly for me and I’m sure many others, this past week was awful - especially watching the domestic terrorist attack unfold on our Capitol on Jan 6. Possibly worst of all was that while the events were completely shocking, horrifying, angering and terribly tragic - they were not surprising. Many, many people have been warning that the rhetoric from the president and many other members of government were cause for alarm, and we’re lucky that the day was not as bad as it could have been. In attempting to process everything that has been happening, I found Rep. Cori Bush’s op-ed for the Washington Post to be a compelling read. You can also help hold the Republican members of congress who incited this attack responsible for their actions by signing this bill to investigate and expel them from congress.
In terms of finding some ways to decompress, we’ve started watching the Studio Ghibli film library on HBO Max (it’s so great that they’re finally available somewhere for streaming!) - and might need to get this super cute Kiki’s Delivery Service toddler T for Katie now that I’m rekindling my love of the film.
In other streaming content news: WandaVision, the first of the big new Marvel series on Disney+, starts airing this Friday January 15! This is definitely my most-anticipated of the MCU series - I love the off the wall mix of superhero and homage to sitcoms over the years. Kevin Feige and director Matt Shakman even met with Dick Van Dyke to get his expertise on 1950s sitcoms! And the theme song was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Bobby Lopez (the songwriting team who brought you the music for Frozen among many other things.) If you don’t have time to do a rewatch of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame to prepare - all of Scarlett Witch & Vision’s prior MCU appearances - Disney+ has launched a new shorts series called Marvel Studios LEGENDS, and the first 2 episodes available now just happen to feature the romantic duo.
My new favorite Instagram follow- infectious disease researcher Laurel Bristow (@kinggutterbaby) - if your keeping it real/get a grip friend was ALSO the one breaking down Covid & vaccines (with facts, science & peer reviewed studies, naturally.) Maybe you have a scientist bestie, or are your friend group’s scientist bestie, but if not I find her incredibly helpful in understanding the latest.
I just discovered that my favorite hand sanitizer is now sold at Target!
We were very into this cute Safari play set this week (that is also designed to work with all wooden train track kits!)
