Holiday Gift Guide: The Small Shop Artist Edit

Holiday Gift Guide: The Small Shop Artist Edit

Though we did about half of our Christmas decorating pre-Thanksgiving, it’s officially the merriest, most magical time of year so we are full steam ahead on as much holiday spirit as we can muster for the next ~month!

While the holidays are going to look a little different this year for many thanks to the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, I still wanted to share some curated gift guides for those looking to shop for friends and family. With so many businesses and creators struggling this year, there is a stronger push than ever to seek out and support small & local shops whenever we can. A lot of artists especially rely on conventions and events that weren’t able to happen, or happened virtually and maybe didn’t get as broad of an audience as in years past.

Below are some fun ideas for those looking for something a little more unique, or some new artwork to display in their homes - especially if you’re looking to mix things up after being largely stuck at home for going on 8+ months now!

1. Wooden animal ornaments by Caroline Purdue - if you’re looking to add to your tree these are a gorgeous addition! There is currently a listing to bundle 2 ornaments for $5 off, or if you buy all 6 you get free shipping.

2. Calendar Girl desk calendar by Brittney Lee - Perfect for someone with a love of fashion, I’ve had one of these gorgeous calendar dolls for years. She just launched the 2021 calendar girl wardrobe for anyone who already has a girl, and the first wave of Calendar Girls will be listed in her Etsy on Sunday November 29th - be sure to follow @britsketch on instagram to get notifications on when the subsequent releases will be happening in coming weeks because these girls go quick!

3. Weekly Planner pad by Liana Hee - Ok, so this year any use for a planner became pretty laughably moot. But if you’re still writing out meal planning, general chores and errands or just getting a jumpstart on the idea of more activities filling your weeks ahead, this tropical desk pad is an adorable way to do it! I’m a big fan of writing things out in addition to using my iCalendar (the more places I write it down the less likely I am to forget it…right??) so I typically have a few different cute ways to jot down some notes

4. One thing that 2020 has inspired me to bring back is handwritten letters to friends! These blank postcards by my friend Jordan Koch are a cute way to kick that habit into high gear. He also has some ADORABLE Santa Christmas cards that I’ve used in the past for anyone who isn’t going the photo card route

5. Custom Home Pillow - for anyone looking to memorialize a new home or special place, these custom pillows are so cute and cozy looking! This shop does custom cross stitched portraits as well!

6. Star Sign art prints (Aries linked) - I love this series of star sign prints that aren’t totally in your face about what they are but would look really gorgeous as part of a gallery wall

7. Ceramic animal pots - These are SUCH fun pots for the plant lovers in your life. If you select “contact to order” in the drop down on her website, it’ll give you instructions to pre-order any of her designs with an additional fee - perfect since she usually has small batch drops if you aren’t able to wait for one of those.
